Tony Stewart is great for NASCAR. Personally, I don't like him, but that's why he's great. He's the Dennis Rodman, Charles Barkley of NASCAR. Merrill...No spokesperson for NASCAR? Jeff Gordon? Jimmy Johnson? Junior? There's plenty of spokesmen for NASCAR. Incidently, NASCAR decided to choose one tire sponsor for the entire "sport" because they didn't want to foster dangerous competition. If tire manufactures were pitted against each other and creating faster tires, it could become more of a safety concern if all the teams weren't on a level playing field. Not sure if you remember, Mike, but I mentioned to you a few months back that I've started watching NASCAR. It's surprisingly fascinating and NASCAR does a great job of getting their fans connected with the events, races, and their drivers. Watching it in high definition and turning up the stereo, it's actually not a bad way to waste away a Sunday afternoon. I think this might be the year I actually go to my first race and root for my guy, the 11 car Denny Hamlin, baby!

While you may be joining the crowd, Nascar has apparently peaked in terms of fans and TV viewers, with their numbers dropping each of the last two years (though not by much). And part of the reason I've heard is becaused it seems too packaged for newbies, and the hard core base has been forgotten. NASCAR is apparently taking that to heart by allowing comments like that from Stewart and bringing on announcers with a twang and a knack for insider racing terms. Interesting about the safety concerns of competition - that was the exact opposite of Tony's argument: lack of competition breeds laziness, and crappy tires.

evening, gents... having some trouble subscribing to your podcast via the rss feed. i noticed your .xml lists the enclosed mp3s as "text/plain" files... i'm using doppler and i get the following error message: [3/20/2008 4:35:03 PM] [Retriever] [E] The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden., while retrieving the size of http://hackandflack.podcastpeople.com/redirect/media/18036/the-hack-and-the-flack-18036-h.mp3?encoded=35979 that gets repeated over and over for each episode... i doubt i'm the only one having the problem, cause podcastalley.com shows the episodes as "undefined" when you try to listen through their player. anyway, hope someone can sort this out cause i really want to listen as your shows come out, enjoyed what i've heard so far. thanks!!
